Becoming a mum was only the beginning of an emotional journey to fitness for Amanda as she explains: “I think my daughter Isabelle must have been two weeks old and I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror – I was horrified!
“Everyone kept saying ‘it’s just baby weight, you'll lose it soon, it takes nine months to put it on so it will take at least that to lose it'. But as someone who knows others who’ve snapped straight back into their pre-pregnancy clothes, I was left feeling really down, even though I had the joy of my daughter.
“So I stepped onto the scales to see how bad the damage was – I broke down crying as I saw the number staring at me.”
This was when Amanda’s journey really began, as she started to walk everywhere with her daughter, whether in the pram or the baby carrier.
Soon enough she started to feel better and had more energy however her shape wasn't changing and she hadn’t lost as much weight as she’d have liked. She knew more needed to be done but wasn’t sure where to start until she saw banners showcasing I Will If You Will (IWIYW) and its activities on offer.
“This was the nudge I needed to decide I was going to start exercise classes, but I was worried about how I was going to manage this with a small baby in tow,” explains Amanda. “Turns out, it was easy! After a quick chat with Julie the instructor I found out I could take Isabelle with me, which was perfect.”
Amanda went along to one of Julie Porter’s IWIYW sessions and she’s never looked back. So far in her weight loss and fitness journey, Amanda’s lost 22lb, toned up and met some amazing people along the way.
“I’d just like to say thanks to I Will If You Will for making my journey a fun and enjoyable one, and I hope I’ve inspired other women in a similar situation to take up exercise after having a baby!”
